I:Begin Ag@in:I

Broomfield, Colorado’s Ascential Dance Theatre Colorado explores the origins and evolution of life on earth and the complexities of the human mind in their 80-minute debut performance, I:Begin Ag@in:I, while promising new, original works that span various genres of dance, music and culture.  The concert plays at Englewood Civic Center’s Hampden Hall in Englewood, CO on Friday, November 7th and Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at 7:30 PM.  I:Begin Ag@in:I features the choreography of local, visiting and transplanted dance-makers Jennifer Fagan Archer, Kristi Peterson, Carla Menchinella, Sara Lohmeyer and Debra Knapp.

Ascential Dance fuses traditional, contemporary and ethnic dance forms in their classes and choreography while incorporating physicality, emotion, storytelling, musicality and an original style to secure a common thread.  I:Begin Ag@in:I investigates the nature of human beings in the past, present, and future and suggests that as a society, we somehow always resolve to “begin again.”   Carla Menchinella’s Without takes a peek into the process of "walking away" while Torn, a debut by Kristi Peterson, reveals what it is like to live with bi-polar disorder.  Debra Knapp’s 1980’s solo, Whispers, danced by Jessica Garcia and spawned out of an improvisational work-shop, features concise and quirky gestures accompanied by chimes and strange voice-overs.   Closing the show, Jen Archer examines a series of traditional and contemporary folk-stories and fuses them into an evolutionary journey through dance, music and time with the premiere of  l:Vill@ge’:l.

The Ascential Dance School and Company launched less than a year ago and their mission is to inhabit the performing arts in an effort to strengthen communities, promote awareness concerning the value of arts preservation and education, and endorse the medium of dance as a complete artistic experience. The group intends to serve as a facilitator amongst its members, its audience and its locale.

I:Begin Ag@in:I will have a 15-minute intermission and concessions will be sold to raise funds for Ascential Dance’s many philanthropic endeavors.  Come support this devoted and enthusiastic organization and enjoy an eclectic evening bursting with energy and invention.  Tickets are available pre-sale or at the door for a suggested donation of $10 and up.

    Egyptian Cinderella

Ascential Dance, LLC’s debut performance of Egyptian Cinderella will be held at Hampden Hall in Englewood, CO on Saturday, May 31 at 7 PM and Sunday, June 1 at 3 PM; general admission tickets are available for $10 at the door or by contacting Ascential Dance online or by phone.  This 75-minute masterpiece is an original re-creation of the tale Egyptian Cinderella written by Shirley Climo and adapted for stage by Bernadette Dittirofeiten and Jennifer Archer.  The story, which is required elementary reading for the state of Colorado, is brought to life through many movement disciplines including:  Jazz, African, Modern, and Ballet.  Egyptian Cinderella includes students of the Ascential Dance School, Ascential Dance Theatre Colorado, ADT2, and special guest artists.

This awe inspiring performance depicts the experiences of Rhodopis, played by Kristi Peterson.  Rhodopis, a Greek girl, is captured at her home in Greece against her will and is brought to the unfamiliar Northern African country of Egypt.  Our character embodies defeat, hope, and an outlook for a better tomorrow.  She has many obstacles along the way, including 3 jealous household servants (played by Tobi Compton, Michelle Sims, and Sara Lohmeyer); as well as an all-knowing Falcon (played by Carla Menchinella) that steals her slipper, a gift from her Master (played by Steve Russell) and delivers it to the Pharaoh Ramses (played by Conor Wittry).   All of the characters have their own underlying  agendas  and those issues are woven around and through one another's.

The effort that has been put forth by those involved in this production cannot go unnoticed.  The Ascential Dance school opened a mere 5 months ago and its directors: Jennifer Fagan Archer, Tobi Johnson Compton, and Carla Menchinella have assembled an unmatched team of artists and supporters dedicated to arts education through community involvement, accountability and work-place values.   From helping to raise funds for fatal diseases, adopting a local reservoir, and hosting Trash-A-Thons to cover costume costs, the students and professionals have gone above and beyond what it means to be a “dancer.”

Egyptian Cinderella will have a 15-minute intermission where concessions of cookies and lemonade will be sold as part of Operation Lemonade, a fundraiser for pediatric cancer, in collaboration with K12 Virtual Academy.

This creative and eclectic performance will be fulfilling to all that attend.  Come support this new organization and enjoy this timeless historical fiction story, original score and wonderful costumes as we bring Rhodopis, the Egyptian Cinderella, to life.
