Fall Classes

for

Colorado Virtual Academy (COVA)!

(FALL TERM, October 12th - December 20th, 2008)

• Mondays, 4-5 PM, Beginning JaM 2 for boys & girls in 3rd-5th Grade.
• Tuesdays, 345-445 PM, Beginning JaM 1 for boys & girls in 1st & 2nd Grade.
• Wednesdays, 630-730 PM, Adult JaM for COVA parents.
• Thursdays, 4-5 PM, Combo class for COVA Kindergarten & Pre-schoolers*.

1 hour classes for a 10 week session are $100. COVA families will have the $25 registration fee waived for Fall term 2008.

 If a group of 8 or more students wish to hold a class closer to their homes, we will come out to those sites. Certain restrictions apply.

Course descriptions:

“JaM” classes (1st grade and older) present the Afro-fusion technique as developed by Ascential Dance Theater Colorado Founder, Jennifer Fagan Archer. African influenced movement and contemporary dance styles are blended together with a focus on the isolation of body parts, rhythm and poly-rhythms, turns and shifting weight. In addition to the technical skills developed in this class, the students will be exposed to international music and culture. Jazz, Hip-hop, African and Modern techniques will be taught simultaneously and all dance classes have an academic component. Children's dance classes engage the COVA Physical Education, Music, History & Science curriculums. Students will be able to mark off certain assignments as a result of participating in this course. Adult classes focus on aerobic movement, stretching and dance combinations.

The 4-6 year olds will have a Combination (Combo) class of Ballet and JaM dances. The Ballet portion will focus on strength, technique and fluidity while the JaM portion will simply be an introduction to the JaM syllabus with emphasis on imagination through the use of themes, props and storytelling. Engages the COVA Kindergarten curriculum. Students will be able to mark off certain assignments as a result of participating in this course. *Will consider mature Pre-schoolers.
